Mills Family History
Roger and Joan Mills and their 2 daughters, Rachel and Lorraine emigrated to Canada from Staffordshire, England, in April 1994 where they had previously owned and managed a 60 cow dairy for 27 years. They set up the Millmount prefix at their new dairying location, 7 miles south of Steinbach, Manitoba. Although taking over a non-recorded herd, they immediately started registering, classifying and milk recording and benefited from using sires like Astre, Rudolph, Aeroline and Aero.
In 2002, having taken yields to 10500 kgs per cow and having bred the Excellent cow Hazel [now EX 93 9E], the entire herd was sold to Ed and Kathy Friesen [Friecrest] at Kleefeld, Manitoba.
After selling the cows they expanded the custom harvesting business to provide a timely service to producers who preferred to invest money in cows and milk quota, rather than in machinery.

At that time Roger was asked to draw on a lifetime’s experience in the dairy industry to provide the services of Dairy Business Consultant to the MDFMG of which he was a founder member.
In 2005, the farm was sold and with both girls now married, Roger and Joan have downsized and live in Steinbach, but are very grateful to Ed and Kathy for giving their cows the same care and attention that they themselves had previously awarded them.
